How did it all begin?

I joined TikTok in 2018 as one of their first employees in Europe. While building out the platform, I had the opportunity to deep dive into the app’s functionalities and collaborate with a diverse spectrum of TikTok creators, in the process developing new best practices and case studies. In 2021 I decided to leave the company to start my own agency, in order to more fully focus on the types of creative endeavors that originally led me to this space.

What sets your business apart?

My experience helping scale TikTok’s European presence through its foundational years has given me an in-depth understanding of the platform, which is why my agency is wholly dedicated to specialized TikTok marketing services. Me and my team create marketing and sales strategies focused on TikTok and have been an official TikTok partner agency since 2022. Our services aim to develop personalized content strategies and train and support our clients on their journey to produce engaging short-form video that they feel proud to share.

What is the concept behind your business or the problem you’re solving?

By demystifying TikTok as a marketing tool, we empower our clients to create content that captivates amidst hundreds of videos, ultimately helping them unlock the full potential of the platform.

Where to next/What is your brand vision?

We’re currently working with TikTok Shop to build out their e-commerce capabilities and help brands drive sales directly on TikTok. Asia, particularly China, has been at the forefront of social commerce, pioneering many of the innovations that are only now being adopted in Western markets. Much of this evolution is now being spearheaded by Tiktok. To that end, our goal is to connect merchants with our network of creators to build meaningful collaborations and amplify brand awareness, as we integrate and personalize the latest social commerce strategies and best practices.

What do you feel passionate about/what drives you?

I love learning about brands and people and building stories through short-form video content that brings their unique attributes to life. Short-form video platforms like TikTok are revolutionizing the way we create, share, and consume content, which provides a blank canvas for creative, well-branded experiences. This provides unprecedented opportunities to build a presence and connect with audiences in a more informal, authentic way – and I love helping creators make the most of this medium.

Share an example of early life that has shaped you?

In 2014 I decided to move to Asia and immerse myself in completely different cultures, professional environments, and social communities. I started off with a summer in Beijing learning Mandarin, and have since become fully fluent. Learning the language and being able to build connections with people so far away from my hometown was a fascinating experience, and this feeling only grew once I relocated to Japan for several years. I wanted to share my thoughts and experiences with the rest of the world, and soon after returning to Europe I started my first video channel.

Highlights of your business journey so far?

One of our highlights was becoming an official TIkTok partner and being able to work with former colleagues side-by-side after starting my agency, albeit with more creative independence and willingness to experiment.

Key lessons you have learned along the way?

Take time to find the right team and really get to know their strengths and weaknesses. Culture should never be monolithic, whether it’s in regards to a work environment or entire civil society, so it’s important to recruit a diverse array of talent and personalities that individually contribute something meaningful to our collective cause.

Best piece of advice you have received?

“Every ‘no’ is a step closer to the ‘yes’ that matters.” So don’t see individual rejections as setbacks. Instead, treat them as valuable learning experiences that provide the step stones to move forward.

Advice to an aspiring entrepreneur or woman just starting her career?

Know who you are and who you want to be. Building a business is hard work and it’s easy to lose yourself along the way. Embrace your unique perspective and strengths, seek mentorship from experienced individuals in your industry, build a supportive network of peers, stay resilient and strike a good balance between both your personal well-being and professional growth.

What funding route have you chosen for your business and why?

My business is completely self-funded. Luckily, building an agency doesn’t require too much initial investment and I was able to use my personal savings to set everything up.

Some of the challenges you have faced and how you overcame them?

My background is in finance and I found that building networks, especially in male-dominated industries has oftentimes been challenging. I attended many industry events, but joining professional (women-led) organizations and leveraging online platforms has been especially helpful for establishing connections with industry peers.

Why is it important to support women-led business?

Many women-led businesses are mission-driven and prioritize social and environmental responsibility, which contributes positively to their communities through philanthropy, sustainability initiatives and community engagement. The empowerment of historically under-represented demographics yields a trove of positive externalities that reverberate well beyond the individuals running these businesses.
