Job title

Investment Director

I have worked at Investec since 2006. Having started my career as an administrator I now look to offer holistic investment management to private clients, and to build bespoke portfolios that look to meet their long-term financial goals.

I am an Investment Director focussing on managing investments for private clients and trusts.

Share an example of early life that has shaped you?

I was involved in scouting from an early age, which taught me how much I am capable of doing and how much more we are capable of when we work together, as well as igniting my love of wild places. Being one of the first female Scouts in Australia I also enjoyed confounding the expectations of adults.

Highlights of your career so far?

I particularly enjoy the “small” highlights: when a client feels more comfortable about their financial position, or is able to assist a family member when they are in need, or retires and enjoys the trip of a lifetime.

Key lessons you have learned along the way?

Always ask questions. I started with Investec as a secretary, and after finding the letters I was typing interesting I started asking colleagues to explain. Everything started from those questions!

Best piece of advice you have received?

Back yourself, and don’t worry about making mistakes because you will learn from them.

Advice to a young person just starting their career?

Keep asking questions, and keep an open mind. Opportunities arise in the most unexpected places.

What is the greatest challenge you have faced either personally or in your career?

After moving to the UK from Australia in 1998 I found myself, five years later, alone with no family and a small child. It was a steep learning curve but I came out stronger and discovered that my daughter and I make a fantastic team.

How do you approach and deal with challenges?

I like to think things through, make a plan and then work through it as logically as possible.

Why do you love what you do?

I enjoy the feeling of having helped, but I really love being able to explain something to a client that they have been concerned about, and helping them feel confident in their financial decision making.

Why is it important to support women-led business?

Because different backgrounds and perspectives bring different ideas and solutions.

My inspiration is...

my parents.

My greatest fear is...

being trapped.

The most courageous thing I’ve ever done is...

abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth while wearing a onesie.

I'm most proud of...

making a good life here for myself after a very rocky start.

Guiltless pleasure?

lying in a field watching the sky.

Mantra you live by?

if you don’t try, you will never succeed.

Female role model?

Eleanor Roosevelt.

Women-led brand you love?

Top productivity tool?

occasionally panic, but always a list.

I offer holistic investment management to private clients.

What I feel passionate about both professionally and personally…

Professionally, I am passionate about helping people meet their financial goals and working together to understand their needs and how we are aiming to address them. Personally, I am a huge dog lover and am passionate about environmental issues and conservation.

How do I stay motivated at work and at home?

I focus on the end goal. Also coffee!
