Meet the FOUNDER and DIRECTOR of The Women’s Chapter, Michelle de Klerk
From hard news and investigative journalist to commodities editor, marketer, business development consultant and entrepreneur, Michelle has worn many hats, and lived in places as diverse as Paris, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Washington, and London. She is passionate about the power of women in business, and launched The Women’s Chapter in 2014 as a means to champion women-led businesses, and bring like-minded women together to connect, inspire, and be inspired.
Throughout her time in financial services and commodities, and later as a marketing director in the luxury sector, she became aware of the need for curated opportunities for women, both professionals and entrepreneurs, to come together to grow their networks in a more meaningful way.
Passionate about providing career inspiration and female role models for her own daughters, and future generations of women in business, she started The Women’s Chapter as a side hustle on a shoestring budget, building the founding membership through reaching out directly to women who moved her with their tenacity and determination. Five years later, there are now more than 2,500 high impact women in the Women’s Chapter community, and the network has been featured in publications including Harper’s Bazaar, Forbes and The Telegraph.
In addition to her work with The Women’s Chapter, Michelle also runs a luxury brand consultancy working with businesses from start-ups to multinationals. Her work has included projects for Wedgwood, LVMH, Explora, Carolina Herrera, Metier, Goat Fashion, Roksanda, Vienna Tourist Board, Rolls-Royce and Cliveden House Hotel.
