Positive Luxury

I am the CEO of Positive Luxury and a passionate advocate for sustainability and social issues. Positive Luxury is a company that helps luxury brands become more sustainable. She also leads the "real change in 2025" initiative, which aims to drive transformation across the luxury sector by focusing on environmental responsibility, social impact & equity, and consumer engagement.

Share an experience or challenge that has shaped you? I grew up in a place of great natural beauty – swimming in lakes and ponds decades before ‘wild swimming’ was a thing, climbing trees (and sometimes falling out of them), riding a trail bike through fields and forests, trooping through snow to the end of our back yard and ice skating to meet friends, water skiing and pontooning on lakes in summertime, snowmobiling to school, and on and on. It gave me an appreciation of nature and wildlife, and a comfort with risk and adventure that has served me well.
Best piece of advice you have ever been given? Structure is freedom.
What advice would you give to your younger self or a woman just starting her career? Push yourself out of your comfort zone, volunteer yourself for every opportunity going, and pay attention to the details. Become that young, talented person your company and colleagues all trust and progression will be yours.

Why is it important to support women in business and women-led business? Because, while far better, women still aren’t on an equal footing with men in most industries and professional cultures. Always back the underdog! And, critically because the leaders of truly responsible businesses are very often women.

60 Seconds with Amy Nelson-Bennett

My inspiration is: Travel. Immersion in someone else’s culture and challenges is the ultimate leveller and reminder of how fortunate I’ve been to be born in the circumstances I was.
My greatest fear is: Confined spaces.
The most courageous thing I have ever done is: Ask the guy who is now my husband of over 30 years to marry me.
I am most proud of: The talent I’ve been lucky enough to work with throughout my career. Yes, people are the toughest part of the job, but equally they’re the best.
Guiltless pleasure: Beer, cheese and sausages.
Mantra I live by: Live big.
Female role model: Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She didn’t let herself get pushed around.
Women-led brand I love: My friend and ex-colleagues’ new fragrance brand, Within 51/49. She’s put her whole heart and soul (and a lot of her savings) into it, and it shows!
