Share an experience or challenge that has shaped you? In 2015, I was fired from a toxic corporate job. By then, my hair was falling out, a rash had appeared above my eyelids, and I had lost a significant amount of weight. I remember looking at myself and wondering, Why haven’t I taken care of myself? Why am I still single?
That moment became a turning point. I decided to take control of my life. Drawing on my business acumen, I approached my personal life the same way I would approach any strategic goal: with clarity, structure, and intention. I created what would become The Man Plan, and one year later, I met the man who became my husband.
Best piece of advice you have ever been given? Surround yourself with people who have bigger goals than you. Ambition is contagious.
What advice would you give to your younger self or a woman just starting her career? Ask yourself, ‘How would I feel if everything turned out in the best possible way?’ If that feeling excites you, you’ve found your answer.
What does success mean to you? Success is choosing courage, resilience, grit, and commitment, even when it’s uncomfortable.
How do you handle challenges and changes? What's in your toolkit? I try to figure out if there’s a better belief that will serve me in this situation.
Why is it important to support women in business and women-led business? Supporting women in business is both logical and powerful. Women comprise half the global population, and, as Melinda Gates notes, when women rise, their families and communities rise with them.
60 Seconds with Jocelyn Penque
My inspiration is: Dolly Parton. She is one of the few people who can bring people together with her boundless humility and compassion. She is genuine.
My greatest fear is: Believing my own BS...
The most courageous thing I have ever done is: My friends and I lived with a local family in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, while supporting their social enterprise.
I am most proud of: Our wedding truly felt like 'us', and it was a fairytale. Friends and family from around the world flew in to celebrate with us at Berkeley Castle, the oldest building in the UK that has been continuously inhabited by the same family who built it.
Guiltless pleasure: I love champagne. I love wine. I just passed my WSET level 1 course.
Mantra I live by: I want to be an example of what’s possible.
Female role model: My mother was a rare blend of kindness, intelligence, and quick wit and everyone who crossed her path loved her.
Women-led brand I love: Holland Cooper, Tala, Stripe & Stare
