Share an experience or challenge that has shaped you? Starting a business with my sister — that’ll do it. We’ve laughed, cried, swapped some job roles more times than I can count, not fallen out and built something we’re properly proud of. It’s been full of highs and lows, lessons and late nights. But that kind of journey shapes you — it’s taught me so so much, and continues to do so every single day. I sometimes wonder where I would be if we hadn’t done it… but for the ups and downs, I have learnt so much and I think I would have always dreamt of having my own business if I hadn’t done it.
Best piece of advice you have ever been given? “You have to go there to come back." This makes so much sense to me. Sometimes you’ve got to learn the hard way or make big mistakes to really find your way back to something better. There’s wisdom in the wander and often you need to do something to find out that it’s not the right thing… unfortunately.
What advice would you give to your younger self or a woman just starting her career? Don’t panic. There will be so many challenges, big and small, thrown at you every single day. You don’t have to fix them all at once. Learn to sit with the problem for a moment. Breathe, regroup, then find your way through. You’re more capable than you know and sometimes the answer just needs a while to show up. Also, as one of out staff once said and resonated, we are not saving lives here, it will be ok.
What does success mean to you? Doing things well. I’m a creative perfectionist. When something looks beautiful, sounds right, feels like us and works— that’s when I’m at my happiest. As we navigate growing a business with many employees, success shows up in many different ways, not always in the sales line. We are proudly a B Corp business and when I read our latest B-Corp impact report, I felt very successful indeed.
How do you handle challenges and changes? What's in your toolkit? Time. Always time. I’ve learned not to try to fix big things between back-to-back meetings on a Tuesday (our fullest day of the week). If something’s hard, I let it breathe. Sleep on it, step away, and come back with a clear head and a quiet moment at my desk. Most things feel better after a good night’s sleep and some space to think.
Why is it important to support women in business and women-led business? Because we’re brilliant. And busy. And balancing a lot. Women have an ability to share energy, to lift each other, to speak truthfully and kindly. We’re often spinning ten plates while making magic happen — and when we connect and support each other, it feels like anything’s possible. It’s not always easy, but when we share our stories, our challenges, and our little wins… it helps, a lot.

My inspiration is: Everywhere, all around us, in a bowl of lemons, the woods, concrete paths or a perfect picture. I can find inspiration in anything visual. In people, it is kindness. I am inspired by acts that have no incentive but to make others feel better.
My greatest fear is: Parsnips, they are horrible and not seeing enough of my parents as busy lives and logistics get in the way.
The most courageous thing I have ever done is: Starting a business.. Secret Linen Store is my second business, to start the first, I left my full time job, with a new baby, and paid myself from my credit card for the first 3 months.
I am most proud of: My daughter, she is 18, independent, confident, and off to study Textile Design at Glasgow school of art..
Guiltless pleasure: Crinkle cut crisps.
Mantra I live by: You have to go there to come back.
Female role model: This changes all of the time, I love discovering amazing women and then learning more about them .. I’m going to say Jacinda Ardern at the moment, what an incredible woman. Not for business acumen of course, but for daring to go where others haven’t, doing things differently, being only the second PM ever to have a child and for walking away when she felt she didn’t have anything left.
Women-led brand I love: Ohh, there are so many, let’s go for love Pip and Nut… because I love love peanut butter and lots and lots of it.
