Share an experience or challenge that has shaped you? A few life events have shaped me over the years nothing more than losing my father who was the most compassionate figure in my life. He taught me to see the wisdom and insight in life’s challenges and to see these obstacles (as he referred to them) were preparation for greater growth.
Best piece of advice you have ever been given? Trust your intuition – if something doesn’t feel right it is more than likely it isn’t. I have learnt over the years this advice is particularly valuable in business. Something I once read Steve Jobs said about the role of intuition played a big part in his success.
What advice would you give to your younger self or a woman just starting her career? Trust the process everything unfolds in its own time and be “patient”. Surround yourself with trusted mentors who encourage you to develop and grow. The practice of self-compassion has been transformative when dealing with my inner critic it has allowed me to see failure as learning opportunities without being too harsh and self-judgmental.
What does success mean to you? Success is creating spaces where women can authentically thrive which creates ripple effects on wider communities.
How do you handle challenges and changes? What's in your toolkit? I return to my self-compassion and yoga practices to help ground me when everything feels uncertain or challenging. Self-compassion has given me more resilience to help me bounce back a lot quicker and being more accepting of change. Over the years I have learnt to embrace change rather than trying to resist it after all nothing is static.
My sister has been one constant source of strength in my life and lives in my toolkit!
Why is it important to support women in business and women-led business? You need a supportive environment to thrive. I have carefully over the years built a network of women who I can reach out to whether this is for technical support or for problem solving. I am also passionate about the next generation of women and each successful woman in business becomes a visible example that expands to this next generation of women.
