The PR Set

Pippa is a PR strategist who helps established female founders become the recognised authority in their industry. With 15+ years in leading PR agencies and 2 years as a magazine editor, she knows exactly what makes PR gatekeepers say yes. She gives business owners the strategy, contacts and confidence to use PR as a cornerstone of their growth.

Share an experience or challenge that has shaped you? Starting my business and wanting to do things differently from the industry norm. I'd grown up in PR agencies working on big brands with big budgets, but realised I really loved working with female founders making an impact with their work. I had to shed the traditional way of doing things to create a business model that works for me and my clients. The more I've grown in confidence doing this the more I've really been able to lean into how I do this.
Best piece of advice you have ever been given? "No one cares about your business as much as you do" - it's so freeing. No one else is watching your business or caring about the things that you do - so put the overthinking and the worry to one side and just focus on what's right for you and your business.
What advice would you give to your younger self or a woman just starting her career? Find your tribe - the people who'll support you and cheerlead you and be there for the highs as well as the lows.
And make sure you enjoy the ride (as much as possible!) because you never actually reach the destination, you just end up changing the place that you're going to.
What does success mean to you? Building a financially successful business that has an impact on the women I work with so together we create a ripple effect. Feeling like the work I do is making a difference. Making the people I love and care about proud of me.
How do you handle challenges and changes? What's in your toolkit? The right support. Bringing the right people into the business (internally and externally) and focusing on my mindset and how I react when faced with those challenges and changes has been key for me.
Why is it important to support women in business and women-led business? Because we're creating a positive impact in a very wobbly world whilst juggling everything else at the same time.

When over 80% of 11-18 years olds can't name a single female entrepreneur there's still (sadly) a lot of work to be done. I want my boys to enter a world of work that looks and feels very different.

60 Seconds with Pippa Goulden

My inspiration is: My Mum - she started a business in her 60s, helping to change social work and she won a Great British Entrepreneur Award.
My greatest fear is: Right now, I'd say Donald Trump...
The most courageous thing I have ever done is: Starting my business and doing things differently to the industry norm.
That and pretending I was Cilla Black and doing Blind Date at a talent show on holiday. I was 8 but it still haunts me to this day....
I am most proud of: My boys, they're pretty fabulous (if not incredibly infuriating)
Guiltless pleasure: Will you judge me if I say a crisp sandwich?
Mantra I live by: Send the f*cking email
Female role model: The female founders I get to work with day in day out.
Women-led brand I love: I'm partial to a Mother Root whilst I'm cooking my Bold Beans in my Stripe & Stare pants whilst snacking on my Pip & Nut (I don't actually cook in my pants, that would be dangerous).. Ooh and Oatsu is amazing. There's so many!
